Mechanical strength: It does not break even when subjected to impact, can hold high pressure, and is capable of withstanding a drop from a considerable height. At the same time, it has adequate rigidity and hardly changes shape when deformed.

Barrier properties: It perfectly serves as a barrier to carbon dioxide, oxygen, and water vapor, making it highly suitable for a variety of products with strict storage requirements, like carbonated drinks and fruit juices.

Chemical Resistance: It generally resists most acids, oils, alkalis, and solvents, but it is not resistant to strong alkalis and some halogenated hydrocarbons.

Heat Resistance: Standard PET's heat resistance stops at approximately 60–70°C, whereas hot fill grade PET can tolerate heat of 85–95°C; it is not designed for high temperature boiling or microwave heating.

Lightweight: The material has low density, is hardly heavy, and therefore very easy to transport and carry.

Processability: It is a good material for injection moulding and blow moulding; different shapes and sizes of bottles can be produced (ranges from a few dozen milliliters to several liters).

Environmental sustainability: Although it is capable of being recycled (recycling code 1), it does not biodegrade significantly and therefore must be disposed of through a recycling system.

Safety: As it is food-safe, non-toxic, and odorless it complies with food contact material standards. It may, however, emit trace compounds such as acetaldehyde under high temperatures or after prolonged use.

Surface properties: Due to its smooth surface, printing of labels is quite easy; however, since it has poor anti-static properties, it attracts dust quite ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌easily.
