Heat-resistant sterilisation: Furthermore, PP can work with boiling water sterilisation above 100°C without any change of shape or damage, in contrast to other sterilisation techniques. The non-toxicity and chemical stability of food-grade PP cups make them safe even when hot water comes in contact with them.
Microwave-safe: Out of all plastic materials for food containers, PP is the sole one that permits direct heating in a microwave without any issue.
Combination of force and elasticity: When looking at the plastic PE, one sees that in terms of hardness and rigidity, the PP is much higher than it is. Nonetheless, it still holds a certain amount of flexibility under its fold. It is important to keep in mind, though, that PP shatters easily at very low temperatures.
Corrosion resistance: PP can tolerate exposure to most types of acids, bases, and solvents very well. Besides, it does not result in any change of the drinks (such as juices or soda) it is in contact with chemically, therefore their flavour and safety are maintained.
High-Transparency Modification: Through method tweaking, one can make high-transparency PP cups that visually resemble transparent plastics like PC and PET.
Easy to manufacture: PP is quite a blessing when it comes to processing and moulding. It opens doors to high-gloss surface finishes and allows for very short cycle times, making it perfect to produce on a large scale.
Note on modified PP: Typically, to enhance the performance of PP, 1–4% ethylene is incorporated. This decreases the heat resistance to about 100°C but results in the improvement of impact resistance.
